Business Immigration Program

Overview

The Business Immigration Program seeks to attract experienced business people who can contribute to the Canadian economy. If you have capital and strong entrepreneurial skills, you may select the Business Immigration Program. The business immigration program has three categories: Entrepreneur, Investor and Self-Employed.

The selection criteria of the Business Immigration Program is based on a point system. The present pass mark for this program is 35 points. There are five selection factors namely:

  • Business Experience
  • Age
  • Education
  • Language Ability
  • Adaptability

    Entrepreneur Category

    Entrepreneur is required to

  • have business experience
  • have a legally obtained minimum net worth of $300,000
  • provide a written statement to an officer that they intend and will be able to meet the conditions imposed on his visa to do business in Canada
  • pass the selection criteria
  • You must control and actively manage a qualifying Canadian business for one year, within three years of coming to Canada, and you must employ at least one Canadian citizen or permanent resident. To assess your eligibility, please click here for a free Entrepreneur Category Assessment.

    Investor Category

    Investor is required to

  • have business experience
  • have a legally obtained net worth of at least $1,600,000.00
  • indicates in writing to an officer that they intend to make or have made an investment of $800,000.00
  • pass the selection criteria
  • Your investment is managed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and is guaranteed by the participating provinces and territories and is returned to the Investor after five years without interest. To assess your eligibility, please click here for a free Investor Category Assessment.

    Self-employed Category

    Self-employed person is required to

  • have relevant experience
  • have the intention and ability to be self-employed in Canada
  • make a significant contribution to the cultural, athletic or the purchase and management of farm activities in Canada
  • pass the selection criteria
