Work Permits

Overview

Work Permit is for a foreign national who wish to temporarily reside and work in Canada. The purpose of allowing a foreign national to work in Canada is to fill a labor shortage and to support economic growth in Canada. Once you obtain an offer of employment, you may receive a work permit to work in Canada.

Eligibility to Apply

You must

  • have a job offer from a Canadian employer
  • have a written confirmation from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) that the employer can hire a foreign worker to fill the job. This confirmation is called a positive labor market opinion
  • demonstrate the intention to leave Canada at the end of your work permit
  • provide evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself and your family while you are in Canada
  • complete a medical examination
  • provide proof of no criminal record
